Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms, and the Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
